Deactivate or delete
Deactivating hides your profile and stops new work reaching you. Your data stays and you can come back.
Deleting is permanent.
Before you can delete
Deletion is blocked while you have:
- an active project or an unapproved funded milestone;
- an open dispute;
- an available balance not yet withdrawn.
Closing an account does not cancel obligations already in progress or release escrowed funds. Finish or resolve these first.
How
Settings → Delete Account. You will be asked to confirm.
What is kept, and why
Some records survive deletion because law requires it:
- Transaction records, for the period tax and financial record-keeping law requires.
- Dispute records, where needed to establish or defend a claim.
- Records of a rules breach, where retaining them prevents the same person returning.
Everything else (profile, messages, files, preferences) is deleted or irreversibly anonymised at the end of the retention periods in the Privacy Policy.
Getting your data first
Request a copy before you delete. Afterwards we may no longer hold it.
